Peppermint Swirl Soap
Small handmade beauty items have become part of my tradition around the holidays. I wrap them up with a bow and they get tucked into gifts for my family or passed to friends. I’ve shown you two simple scrub recipes here and here that are great for beginners. Making soap is a little more tricky and more time invasive. Most need their own tools separate from what you use for cooking. I was lucky to have an older double boiler that I was not using that I could donate to melting soap only. There are small kits at craft stores that carry everything in you would need to get started…in fact that’s how I started too. This recipe I made a few years back with bright red food dye and it came out great, this time around I wanted to change the coloring up a little so it didn’t look exactly the same.
Ingredients:
- White soap
- Clear soap
- Peppermint oil
- Vitamin E oil
- Soap molds
- Red dye (soap dye or food coloring)
- Double boiler
Steps:
- Melt down approximately 8 squares of the white soap. Mix in 1 Tbs. of Vitamin E oil, 1 tsp. Peppermint oil, and red dye (I went a lighter mauve color). Pour in molds and refrigerate until hard. Pop them out of molds.

- Cut red squares in thin triangular slices, work the thinner parts into a curve. Place in freezer to harden more while you make the clear. Melt down 6 rows of clear soap. Add in Vitamin E oil and Peppermint oil like above.

- Fill molds half way with the clear soap. Place your curved slivers of red soap to resemble a peppermint. Fill as needed with clear. Be careful to not overflow. Place molds in refrigerator again to harden again.

- When you pull them out of their molds this time leave them out until they reach room temperature, overnight is fine.
- Bag and tie up!

These are really cute!!
