Glam Beauty Board: Simplified Summer Beauty

summer beauty essentials

With warmer temps hitting us this past week here in the northeast I found myself wanting to strip my normal routine and get back to something more simple.  I always want to take summer on with this free, no frills approach with airy dresses and a natural sun-kissed glow.

summer beauty essentials

  • Bare Escentuals Matte Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF15 – The best change I make for summer is switching to a light weight foundation.  I love this BE one because it helps to absorb oils to create a more natural matte finish (without going so over the top matte that you look fake).  Like their original mineral foundation this one has a built in SPF to protect from the sun’s rays.

summer beauty essentials

  • Bare Escentuals Full Flawless Face Brush – I still have brushes from years ago when BE first came out!  The Flawless Face brush features a very densely filled, tapered design perfect for all powders.  It’s shorter stature makes it perfect to go from your vanity to your beach bag to your purse.  I can honestly say this is the only face brush you’ll probably ever really need.

summer beauty essentials

  • Bare Escentuals Well-Rested Face and Eye Brightener – Not to be confused with a normal concealer, this brightener worked wonders on my tired eyes.  After I was done applying all my makeup I dotted a tiny amount in the very inside corners of my eyes and around the top bow of my lips.   For an evening lift I applied right above and blended down the apples of my cheeks.  It instantly made me feel more radiant.

  • Bioelements Oil Control Mattifier - Attending an outdoor wedding?  Vacation at the beach?  When you need a little extra help in not appearing too shiny or oily this product helps you get back to your radiant self.  Wear under your makeup or blot on during the day, it also gives your makeup a little staying power.

summer beauty essentials

  • Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Face Polish – Because we tend to do more outdoor activities in the summer means our skin is exposed to more of the pollutants that leave it dull.  Adding a gentle exfoliator a few times a week will rid the skin of dead cell build-up and make for an amazing starting point for the rest of your routine.

summer beauty essentials

  • Kusmi BB Detox Tea – This was my first time trying Kusmi teas and it was sooooo good.  It’s a loose tea blend of green tea, maté, and grapefruit to help promote a beautiful complexion while ridding the body of toxins.  The smell of this tea was enough to draw me in, and although the grapefruit packs a powerful punch in the scent department it’s surprisingly subtle in the taste of it.  I made mine easily in a french press.

summer beauty essentials

  • Schick Hydro Silk Razor – To prep for my faux golden glow I always shave the day before I intend to use any self tanner.  The Hydro Silk utilizes a water-activated moisturizing serum that left my legs incredibly soft.  It even came with a clever cover for traveling!

summer beauty essentials

  • St. Tropez Self Tan Dark Bronzing Spray – I’m a huge promoter of self-tanners and this one has become a new favorite.  I have a pretty fair complexion and didn’t let the word “dark” deter me because St. Tropez has cutting edge melanin technology that evens out and tailors itself to my skin tone.  It sprayed on streak free, patch free, and nasty self-tanner smell free.

Spring Fling Manicure with Sally Hansen

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Pink Pong

Sally Hansen Gem Crush in Razzle Dazzler

Complete Salon Manicure in Pink Pong Sally Hansen Gem Grush in Big Money

Toady, I’ll be sharing two polishes from Sally Hansen, one from the Complete Salon Manicure collection and the other from the Gem Crush collection. I have never tried polish from either of these collections by Sally Hansen, but I was extremely impressed with the results.

The solid color is Pink Pong from the Complete Salon Manicure collection. According to Sally Hansen, this is a 7 in 1 polish, so it includes “base coat, strengthener, growth treatment, salon-inspired color, top coat, chip-resistance and a gel finish all in 1 bottle.” All of my fingers have two thin coats of Pink Pong layered over Sally Hansen Miracle nail thickener. First of all, the color of this polish is beautiful. It is a blushy, neutral pink that is somewhat subtle on it’s own. It’s definitely a classic color to have in your nail polish collection. The application of this polish was near flawless. The application brush is different from any other polish I have used. It’s wider and rounder which make coverage much better. Pink Pong has a crème base, so it went on really smoothly for both coats. After wearing it for a couple of days, I do feel that it is more chip-resistant than most polishes I’ve used and it does dry with a lot of shine.

The Sally Hansen Gem Crush polish is a glitter in the color Razzle Dazzler. I layered one coat of this polish over Pink Pong on my ring and pinky fingers. The glitter in this polish is beautiful! Densely made up of micro, blushy, medium pink glitter and small, round, silver glitter, it is great for a full glitter accent nail or a super sparkly mani. Application was pretty good for a glitter, but if you want more of the base polish to show through, I would suggest being conservative on your first coat. Overall, this is a gorgeous polish! I haven’t seen many glitters in this color, so it’s definitely worth buying!

Both of these Sally Hansen polishes exceeded my expectations. The formula, color, and application were outstanding, not to mention the beautiful packaging and easy to grip caps. I can’t wait to pick up some other Sally Hansen colors and glitters from these collections to try out!

Mascara Monday: Tarte’s MultiplEYE™ Natural Lash Enhancing Primer

We prime our faces for foundation, we prime our eyes for eyeshadow, so why not prime for thicker looking lashes?

Tarte's MultiplEYE Natural Lash Enhancing Primer

Tarte

MultiplEYE™ Clinically-Proven Natural Lash Enhancing Primer

Cost: $22 at Sephora

So after that bad sampling I received I decided to buy the full size thing and I’m pretty glad I did too.  Forgive me, I started using an eye lash serum at the same time I started using MultiplEYE which made it hard to tell which one my lashes are benefiting the most from.  My lashes have been coming in stronger and thicker but the biggest thing I noticed while using this primer was that it really enhances the mascara that I’m using…and I’m using a lot less of it too!  When layered with your favorite mascara, and I’ve used a couple brands with it, this primer does a great job of making your lashes look fuller.  I tend to be pretty heavy handed as well with my mascara but paired with this primer underneath it got the mascara to do it’s job quicker thus using less product.

On a side note if you’re not familiar with Tarte: all their products are formulated without any talc, parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, and synthetic fragrances just to name a few.

What do you think?  Would you add this step to your routine?  Tweet me @behindthelashes and tell me.

Swatch Story: Pacific Illusions Beauty Spring-Summer 2013

I had the pleasure to play with the beautiful and romantic brand Pacific Illusions for the first time.  This Cali-based beauty brand is a part of the “free” movement–meaning all their cosmetics are paraben free, talc free, fragrance free, and cruelty free leaving you stress free!  All of the eye shadows went on smoothly with zero falling and the colors just screamed “let’s go to the beach!”.  I loved the pressed bronzer and blush, they were the perfect size to anywhere with you and the shades were just perfect to compliment any look.  The mascara was non-clumping and was a very rich black (this may sound a little crazy but after you try a dozen mascara you’ll know what I mean).  You’ll have to try some of their products yourself to see why this brand was such a pleasure to try.  Check out the collection in it’s entirety at ArtisanGemsBoutique.com.
