Blogger Beauty: Shine by Three

I’ve been following the lovely Margaret of Shine by Three since I got into blogging almost a year ago.  I was quickly sucked into her gorgeous and romantic style.  She makes dressing look so effortless!  I love how her pictures are full of movement–she really captures the beauty in each outfit she wears.  I was delighted when she agreed to take my blogger beauty questionnaire!!

BtL:  What does “beauty” mean to you?

Margaret:  For me, beauty is how you take care of yourself. There’s the obvious level of looking good with your make up skills and cleansing routine and what-have-you, but if you wake up the next morning feeling and looking awful because of a bad diet or lack of sleep, then it’s probably not working out for you :)

BtL:  What’s your typical skincare routine?

Margaret:  I keep it fairly simple. I always cleanse and moisturise before I go to bed and in the morning as soon as I’m up. On a bad day, I’ll take an icecube and run it over my face (works wonders), but nothing fancy!

BtL:  Oh my!!  Love that icecube idea.  I’m going to have to try that asap!

BtL:  Do you have a go-to makeup look?

Margaret:  As of a few weeks ago, if I don’t have the time, I ditch eyeshadow and liner all together and just go a little heavier on the eyelashes (Twiggy style) with a dot of white liner on the inside and outside corners of the eyes. Best trick in my book, anyway.

BtL:  What can’t you leave the house without on?

Margaret:  My Anna Sui lip balm. I hate the feeling of chapped lips – and applying lip balm is the best awkward-moment-saver :)

BtL:  Do you have any favorite products?

Margaret:  I can’t get enough of LimeCrime lipsticks. I always get compliments when I’m wearing any one of those eyepop colours! They’re great with any one colour outfit, and my lipstick application skills have gotten so good because of them!

BtL:  What’s your favourite way to treat yourself?

Margaret:  Soaking in the a hot (frangipani-bubbled) bath is one of those luxuries that require a good couple of hours free to execute properly! I’ll be needing one in the next couple of weeks.

BtL:  I hear that one.  Love a good soak! haha

BtL:  What do you love most about being a blogger?

Margaret:  I’d have to say the ongoing creative conversation I have with my readers. I love putting my ideas and inspirations out there and getting reader responses that inspire me in return. I also get a buzz from sharing up and coming designers with the world: it’s so exciting to see designers you’ve interviewed grow from local to national to international (on more than one occasion)! And finally, I’m so grateful that I’m able to meet such talented people through my blogging (sometimes, people with so much talent that it’s intimidating!).

BtL:  I love those posts on your blog!!!

Isn’t she beautiful!!  You can see more of Margaret’s great style on her blog Shine by Three.

Blogger Beauty-Life is Royalty

Emilie is the publisher of the of this amazing blog, Life is Royalty, where she puts together great posts with tons of inspiration.  I was very excited that she agreed to do one of my Blogger Beauty posts and also share some of her style icons with us.  Enjoy!

Emilie (2nd from left) with her girls!

One day while reading one her favorite magazines, Emilie came across an article that featured some of the top bloggers we know.  She immediately jumped online to check out what all the hype was about.  There she was introduced to blogs and was hooked from then on.  She began leaving comments then clicking on the links of other comments and saw there was a whole other world out there, so one afternoon it occurred to her that she could do this too and share everything that she found so inspiring in hopes that it would maybe inspire another person.

BtL:  What does beauty mean to you?

Emilie:  Beauty for me is all about feeling good in your skin, and I think it doesn’t matter how much make-up you’re wearing, how perfect your highlights are or what a fabulous manicure you have. But I also think all these things help to feel better about yourself and more confident :) .  I can feel beautiful after having spent an hour on my make-up, but also after having sailed (without make-up of course :p) the whole day.  My point is you don’t need make-up or an expensive haircut to look beautiful, it’s so stupid to say but beauty comes from the inside :)

BtL:  What’s your typical skincare routine?

Emilie:  I’m a big fan of the 3-step plan of Clinique, I know you should use it 2 times a day but I do it just every evening and it works for my skin.  I have very dry and sensitive skin so I rather buy a more expensive crème to take good care of it and to treat myself.  I have to admit I’m a total girlie-girl on that point, so yes I have a lot of crèmes and lotions :)

BtL:  Do you have a go-to makeup look?

Emilie:  My everyday makeup look is: some bronzing powder, beige eyeshadow, little bit of pink blush and mascara.  For everyday I’m a big fan of the natural look, but for a party at night I love to go crazy on makeup.  Well, I mean not too crazy, but for a party I like to do smokey eyes or some dramatic eyeshadow.  My only problem is I’m a big clums with eyeliner, I just can’t put eyeliner on without looking like a panda haha :D

*Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen *Blake Lively *Charlotte Casiraghi

BtL:  What can’t you leave the house without on?

Emilie:  I’d have to say lipgloss, because that’s the only beauty-product that I always have with me.  My lips get dry very easily so it’s really necessary to have lipgloss in my purse :) And when I leave home for a whole day I also like to bring some perfume with me, because I’m absolutely addicted to perfume, and I like to smell like it the whole day.  But I’m absolutely not the kind of girl that takes mascara and eyeshadow and foundation with me in my purse.

BtL:  Do you have a favorite product(s)?

Emilie:  I have lots of favorite products… :D For instance my Elizabeth 8 hour crème, which is fabulous for my dry skin, I’m addicted to Dior eyeshadow, I also love the Lancôme Juicy Lipgloss, I’m a big fan of Chanel Nailpolish (right now my favourite is Khaki Vert), Biotherm Aquasource daycrème, Chanel Coco Rouge n°5 lipstick, YSL Touche Eclat, and then I change every month or so of favourite perfume and body lotion; for the moment my favourite perfume is Cinéma by YSL and bodylotion is Pure by DKNY.  And I could go for another 20 products but that would be boring :)

*Kate Moss *Nicole Richie

BtL:  What’s your favorite way to treat yourself?

Emilie:  I love getting a manicure or pedicure, especially in winter.  But also I love putting on some good-smelling (obviously :p) body lotion after taking a shower, and that’s a treat every day :)

BtL:  What do you love most about being a blogger?

Emilie:  Oh so many things, I love putting together big inspirational posts, receiving comments, reading and writing comments on other blogs,…. It’s just a whole world and it’s a shame not all people know about it. I hope that with my blog I inspire people and give them a good time reading it. And it’s just fun to have blogging as a hobby I think!

*Olivia Palermo

I absolutely adore Life is Royalty and love the amount of content she puts into her posts.  You can check her blog out by clicking any of the links or it appears in my daily reads section on the right sidebar.

Beauty Blogger: Simone of Fashion Manifest

Fashion Manifest started out of boredom one afternoon and has expanded into an amazing hobby for Simone.  She’s had her ups and downs especially since she was unsure if she wanted to be a fashion blogger or a cozy-personal blogger.  I think she’s definitely found that perfect middle ground.  One of the main reasons I love coming to her blog is because she’s sooo personable and easy to relate to.

BtL:  What does beauty mean to you?

Simone: It sounds like a cliché but I think it’s important to have inner and outer beauty, and both means a lot to me! Both is something you have to work with your whole life… Sadly I didn’t listen to my mom when I was younger, when she told me to clean my face and so on, so I’m just starting to learn how important it is to have beauty routines everyday- no matter how young/old you are… I get a lot of inspiration from this blog for many of my beauty routines actually!

BtL:  What’s your typical skincare routine?

Simone:  I wash my face everyday with water (I’ve heard that it should be temperated in the evening and colder in the morning), after that I use an anti aging face cream… It’s not because I’m crazy about my face, but simply because I borrowed some from my mom one day when I didn’t have anything left of my normal cream and I started to like it because it gives a lot of moisture to my skin which is really good when you live in a cold country  :)

BtL:  Do you have a go-to makeup look?

Simone:  Ehm… Normally I use a very neutral makeup look with a lot of brown shades, but when I’m going out I love to put the focus on my eyes OR my lips – not both! A dark red for the lips is popular this season so I think that is what I’m gonna buy next… Otherwise an eyeliner is my best friend :)

BtL:  What can’t you leave the house without on?

Simone:  Think I lied in the last question… My lash Stiletto Mascara from L’Oréal is my best friend, and therefore it’s always in my bag :)

BtL:  Do you have a favorite product(s)?

Simone:  Since I’m studying I can’t afford all the expensive brands, but I’ve tried many of the products from MAC, and that is some seriously good makeup! If we are talking the inexpensive brands I can actually recommend many of the products from E.L.F., their good for the price.

BtL:  What’s your favorite way to treat yourself?

Simone:  Once my boyfriend gave me a giftcard to a dermatologist and that was so nice to spoil my face with massage, creams and so on… But since I’m just a regular student, I can’t afford doing that everyday. So sometimes I buy (or make it homemade) a facial mask… If I’m really lucky my boyfriend gives me foot massage mmm… that is my favourite massage!

BtL:  What do you love most about being a blogger?

Simone:  I think that there are many positive things by being a blogger! I love to write and communicate with other people, so it’s good practice for me! It’s my hobby and I love finding new blogs, I get inspired by them as well as people can get inspired by my style – which kinda boosts your self esteem a bit :)  In Denmark it’s not as popular to read blogs yet so even though I only have approx 200 reads now I have got some invites to events and so on… That is also a lot of fun to visit those events and talk to other bloggers :)  BUT there are also negative things when you blog on a daily basis as I do! It can be very stressful and you have to watch out for some crazy comments sometimes… It’s kinda weird that some people can hate simply because of the things you do/write/wear?! Sometimes it’s hard even though I keep telling myself that it is them that has the problem and not me…

Blogger Beauty-AsianCajuns

By far one of my most favorite blogs to read right now would have to be Cath and Lar’s AsianCajuns.  There’s something so personal about reading their posts, you can’t help but come back for more.  I was fortunate enough to be able to catch up with these two ladies for my next Blogger Beauty post.

Cath & Lar

BtL:  What does beauty mean to you?

Lar:  Beauty is not taking yourself too seriously and being kind.  I think kindness (as a beauty “product”) is incredibly devalued nowadays.

Cath:  Beauty is being truly comfortable in your own skin.  I envy anyone that feels that way.

BtL:  What’s your typical skincare routine?

Lar:  Cath and I both have very sensitive skin.  It can be oily and dry at the same time, and red and angry at others.  I used to just splash cold water on my face morning and night – it was the only think that didn’t eventually make my skin angry.  I now use Dr. Hauschka’s products. It’s the first skin care line that seems to balance out my skin better than anything else I’ve tried.  I found them when I was looking for products that weren’t tested on animals and were mostly organic.  The down side is they are a bit expensive, but it’s worth saving your pennies for a few ounces of their toner and cleanser.

Cath:  Yeah, I have yet to save enough pennies for Dr. Hauschka!  I stick to mostly drug store purchases.  I only wash my face at night otherwise my skin gets too dried out.  I like DHC’s Mild Soap and Olay or Neutrogena facial lotions with SPF.

Lauren

BtL:  Do you have a go-to makeup look?

Lar:  Yes, but I’m embarrassed to say it’s really boring.  I wear glasses on most days (though you won’t usually see them on AsianCajuns because they don’t photograph well).  My eyes tend to get lost behind my glasses with out a bit of eyeliner (on the top, and just the outer half of the bottom rim) and mascara.  I have Asian eyebrows and eyelashes which means I have to fill in my brows because they are so sparse and curl my stick-strait lashes.  And that’s it!  I don’t even bother with the lower half of my face unless you include constant application of Burts Bees lip balm.

Cath:  Out of the two of us Lar is the one who is more interested in make-up.  She’s willing to play around with it until she finds a good look and then I usually just copy her.  Once I find a go-to look I stick with it for a couple of years.  On weekdays I wear tinted moisturizer, loose powder, a light shimmery eye shadow on my brow bone, a shimmery brown eye shadow on my eyelids and some dark eyeliner.  I should fill in my brows like Lar, but I haven’t added that to my daily routine yet.

BtL:  What can’t you leave the house without on?

Lar:  The eyebrow thing again.  I have to fill them in.  I know filling in your brows can seem like an unnecessary step and even a little high maintenance, but without filling them in, my brows don’t frame my face and my forehead looks even larger.

Cath:  Tinted moisturizer – it’s much lighter than foundation and evens out the skin tone without it looking like I’m wearing pancake make-up.

Catherine

BtL:  Do you have a favorite product(s)?

Lar:  Shu Uemura’s eyelash curler.  Dr, Hauschka’s skin products.  I know I sound like an ad for Dr. Hauschka, but I seriously am in love with their products because they work and they are an environmentally aware company.  I wish more beauty products were like that.

Cath:  Shu Uemura’s eyelash curler is also at the top of my list – definitely worth the price.  I’ve also been using Cover Girl’s tinted moisturizer for years – it doesn’t even have that make-up smell that the more expensive brands have.

BtL:  What’s your favorite way to treat yourself?

Lar:  A large piece of chocolate cake and watching an Audrey Hepburn movie.  She liked chocolate cake too- though possibly not as much as me.

Cath:  A cup of tea and a good book (preferably Jane Austen) or an iced cold fountain Coke on a hot summer day.

Lauren

BTL:  What do you love most about fashion?

Lar:   Using it as another creative outlet. Some people get confused and think Cath and I just like to shop. I actually don’t enjoy the process of shopping at all, but creating an outfit – figuring out how it all comes together – that’s fun.

Cath:  I love all the creativity behind fashion – the creation of the clothes, the styling, jewelry as art etc.

BtL:  What do you love most about being a blogger?

Lar:  Meeting readers and fellow bloggers around Atlanta and Decatur, and on the internet!  We learn so much from other bloggers- and find them so generous with their creativity and skill!  For instance, I’m pretty clueless about make-up, so I come to your blog, Heather, to find out how to try something new on my eyes, etc.  I love that blogging is a way for people to share ideas and inspiration.  We hope AsianCajuns does that too!

Cath:  I never even thought about the possibility of meeting people through blogging, but that has really been the best part.  It’s been so fun meeting other bloggers who love fashion and style as much as we do.  We’ve also met so many great Atlantans through our blog that its made me love this city even more.

Cath & Lar

Love these girls!!!  Keep doing what you’re doing!  To see more you can click HERE for their blog or on my sidebar as part of my daily reading.

Blogger Beauty-Anna Margrete

Anna Margrete is a seventeen year old Norwegian student who is obsessed with fashion and music, which happens to be a big part of her life.  She is currently studying music and hopes to continue into studying jazz music and maybe, one day, fashion in New York.

Anna Margrete for her blog.

Anna started reading mainly fashion blogs a couple years ago and got inspired with ones such as elenita.no and mode d’amour.  She explained to me, “Style and beauty has been important for me my whole life, and reading blogs made me start my own. My blog has made me explore and try out new things. Fashion is about courage and confidence, and that is why I think it is so great. I believe that reading blogs has an influence on ones style, and that there´s a lot of inspiration and learning to get by reading them. My main purpose by my blog is to inspire others, the way that I have been inspired. I´m always trying to explore new types of style, and through my blog I can share this and my sources to inspiration.”

I find her absolutely adorable and always look forward to reading her posts. Her blog can be found HERE and also in “my daily readings”.

Anna and her friend Chalotte.

BtL:  What does beauty mean to you?

Anna: I think that true beauty comes from the inside (so cliche, but true). When you first meet a person, you might not see the beauty in the person, but when you get to know him/her, you might think that the person is beautiful. It all depends on whether or not you are confident or not, charm and charisma. Outside beauty is something everyone thinks to much about, included myself, but that is in the end what gives you confidence. In my opinion, if you feel pretty, you are pretty.

BtL:  What’s your typical skincare routine?

Anna: I have quite sensitive skin, so I have to take good care of it. To do that, I just make sure that I cleanse my skin every morning and night, and use a good cream.

BtL:  Do you have a go-to makeup look?

Anna: I am a big fan of the natural look. That is what I always go for when I´m going out. I want to look as much me as possible with make-up. I´m really into being and looking like myself at all times.

BtL:  What can’t you leave the house without on?

Anna: I never go out without my Lip Balm from EOS. That way, my lips always look great, and I think my lips are my best feature.

Her favortie balm!

BtL:  Do you have a favorite product(s)?

Anna: I am a big fan of mineral products – Bare Mineral and E.l.f. are my favorites. I have no idea how to use liquid foundation, so mineral foundation is perfect for me.

BtL:  What’s your favorite way to treat yourself?

Anna: When I really need to relax and calm down, I love taking a bath. HOT water, a lot of foam, a glass of cola, some music and a face-mask. perfect. I might also cut some carrots and make me a good dip.

BtL:  What do you love most about being a blogger?

Anna: Oh.. I love it all! I love the way I can get others tips and thoughts, how I can share my own thoughts and how I can see that I´m making an impression on other people. I don´t have a lot of friends who are as in to fashion and blogging as myself, so just the part of being a part of the blogging-community is fantastic. It´s a learning process in every way possible.
