Blogger Beauty-AsianCajuns
By far one of my most favorite blogs to read right now would have to be Cath and Lar’s AsianCajuns. There’s something so personal about reading their posts, you can’t help but come back for more. I was fortunate enough to be able to catch up with these two ladies for my next Blogger Beauty post.
BtL: What does beauty mean to you?
Lar: Beauty is not taking yourself too seriously and being kind. I think kindness (as a beauty “product”) is incredibly devalued nowadays.
Cath: Beauty is being truly comfortable in your own skin. I envy anyone that feels that way.
BtL: What’s your typical skincare routine?
Lar: Cath and I both have very sensitive skin. It can be oily and dry at the same time, and red and angry at others. I used to just splash cold water on my face morning and night – it was the only think that didn’t eventually make my skin angry. I now use Dr. Hauschka’s products. It’s the first skin care line that seems to balance out my skin better than anything else I’ve tried. I found them when I was looking for products that weren’t tested on animals and were mostly organic. The down side is they are a bit expensive, but it’s worth saving your pennies for a few ounces of their toner and cleanser.
Cath: Yeah, I have yet to save enough pennies for Dr. Hauschka! I stick to mostly drug store purchases. I only wash my face at night otherwise my skin gets too dried out. I like DHC’s Mild Soap and Olay or Neutrogena facial lotions with SPF.
BtL: Do you have a go-to makeup look?
Lar: Yes, but I’m embarrassed to say it’s really boring. I wear glasses on most days (though you won’t usually see them on AsianCajuns because they don’t photograph well). My eyes tend to get lost behind my glasses with out a bit of eyeliner (on the top, and just the outer half of the bottom rim) and mascara. I have Asian eyebrows and eyelashes which means I have to fill in my brows because they are so sparse and curl my stick-strait lashes. And that’s it! I don’t even bother with the lower half of my face unless you include constant application of Burts Bees lip balm.
Cath: Out of the two of us Lar is the one who is more interested in make-up. She’s willing to play around with it until she finds a good look and then I usually just copy her. Once I find a go-to look I stick with it for a couple of years. On weekdays I wear tinted moisturizer, loose powder, a light shimmery eye shadow on my brow bone, a shimmery brown eye shadow on my eyelids and some dark eyeliner. I should fill in my brows like Lar, but I haven’t added that to my daily routine yet.
BtL: What can’t you leave the house without on?
Lar: The eyebrow thing again. I have to fill them in. I know filling in your brows can seem like an unnecessary step and even a little high maintenance, but without filling them in, my brows don’t frame my face and my forehead looks even larger.
Cath: Tinted moisturizer – it’s much lighter than foundation and evens out the skin tone without it looking like I’m wearing pancake make-up.
BtL: Do you have a favorite product(s)?
Lar: Shu Uemura’s eyelash curler. Dr, Hauschka’s skin products. I know I sound like an ad for Dr. Hauschka, but I seriously am in love with their products because they work and they are an environmentally aware company. I wish more beauty products were like that.
Cath: Shu Uemura’s eyelash curler is also at the top of my list – definitely worth the price. I’ve also been using Cover Girl’s tinted moisturizer for years – it doesn’t even have that make-up smell that the more expensive brands have.
BtL: What’s your favorite way to treat yourself?
Lar: A large piece of chocolate cake and watching an Audrey Hepburn movie. She liked chocolate cake too- though possibly not as much as me.
Cath: A cup of tea and a good book (preferably Jane Austen) or an iced cold fountain Coke on a hot summer day.
BTL: What do you love most about fashion?
Lar: Using it as another creative outlet. Some people get confused and think Cath and I just like to shop. I actually don’t enjoy the process of shopping at all, but creating an outfit – figuring out how it all comes together – that’s fun.
Cath: I love all the creativity behind fashion – the creation of the clothes, the styling, jewelry as art etc.
BtL: What do you love most about being a blogger?
Lar: Meeting readers and fellow bloggers around Atlanta and Decatur, and on the internet! We learn so much from other bloggers- and find them so generous with their creativity and skill! For instance, I’m pretty clueless about make-up, so I come to your blog, Heather, to find out how to try something new on my eyes, etc. I love that blogging is a way for people to share ideas and inspiration. We hope AsianCajuns does that too!
Cath: I never even thought about the possibility of meeting people through blogging, but that has really been the best part. It’s been so fun meeting other bloggers who love fashion and style as much as we do. We’ve also met so many great Atlantans through our blog that its made me love this city even more.
Love these girls!!! Keep doing what you’re doing! To see more you can click HERE for their blog or on my sidebar as part of my daily reading.
